EFNYO General Assembly in Vienna, December 4 - 7, 2013
The second EFNYO General Assembly 2013 took place between December 4th - 7th in Vienna, Austria. The GA was hosted by the Wiener Jeunesse Orchester, and its general manager Renate Böck. The GA was the closing conference of EFNYO's three years framework partnership agreement with the EU Commission (2011-13).
Two public panel discussions were held on December 5th and 6th at the Vienna Konzerthaus on topics around challenges for musicians and music training institutions in the 21st century. Our guests reported on encouraging examples of musicians' career paths (France, Austria, Germany, UK), and discussed ways of extending the training of new skills at the level of music universities/ conservatoires, and in pre-professional youth orchestras.
Our guest speakers included Johannes Pramsohler (baroque violinist/ tutor of OFJ Baroque), Clément Lebrun (musicologist/ tutor within the outreach programme of OFJ), John Axelrod (guest conductor of WJO), John Harris (artistic co-director/ Red Note Ensemble, Edinburgh), Birgit Zemlicka-Holthaus (oboist/ musicians coach, Berlin), Maria Gstättner (bassoonist/ music improvisation, Vienna Music University), Constanze Wimmer (Musikvermittlung/ Communicating Music - Music in Context/ Bruckner University, Linz) and Helena Gaunt (Creative Entrepreneurs Programme/ Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London). Delegates also attended a concert of the Wiener Jeunesse Orchester on Dec. 6th at the Vienna Konzerthaus under the baton of John Axelrod.
