NEWS | EFNYO General Assembly & Annual Conference in Bratislava, June 2023
The vibrant city of Bratislava played host to the much-anticipated General Assembly and Annual Conference of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras (EFNYO) and took place between June 1st - 4th, 2023. Esteemed representatives from youth orchestras and festivals across Europe gathered to exchange ideas, celebrate achievements, and contribute to shape the future of symphonic music in Europe.
Meetings were held in the Music Centre Slovakia and in the University Library of Bratislava. The event kicked off with a board meeting on Thursday, followed by an EFNYO welcome dinner for members and guests. On the following Friday, participants held a round table discussion about issues of music education, orchestra training and career-building for aspiring professional musicians in Slovakia and their peers in other European countries.
Among further topics, participants discussed strategies for a new funding application to the European Commission covering the period 2023-25, assessing the potential of new members joining the federation, and aiming at innovative strategies for our goals in the near future.
In a varied side programme, participants also attended a wonderful vocal concert in St. Martin’s Cathedral. The group also went on a tour to visit Devín Castle, located in the western part of Bratislava, at a historically meaningful site for a united Europe, with great views of the confluence of the rivers Danube and Morava.
EFNYO’s General Assembly and Annual Conference in Bratislava served as a strong evidence for the power of music - bringing together people of different backgrounds, countries, and languages, transcending boundaries and fostering a harmonious Europe through the spirit of the work and mission of national and international youth orchestras.
